Sophia Vitello
Reporter

Sophia Vitello is a Reporter/MMJ and Fill-in Anchor at ABC7. She came to the station in August of 2023 and is excited to stay in Florida for her first reporting job.
She takes pride in focusing on stories that are people-driven, searching for those who need a voice in the community. In her time at ABC7 News, Sophia’s reporting has helped an elderly community have their power restored through government officials two weeks after devastating hurricanes and negligence from property management, connected hundreds of hurricane victims to donations, funding, and resources through live reports, and highlighted faults in the flooding of one 85-home neighborhood, continuously reporting on a maintenance issue that went unnoticed for years.
Before coming to Sarasota, Sophia graduated from the University of Miami with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Creative Writing. In her time in school, she received two Florida Association of Broadcast Journalism Awards for her investigative reporting, a student Murrow Award for her anchoring as well as a College Television Award.
Sophia always had a passion for news reporting, and thanks to her mother's on-camera job at Home Shopping Network growing up, she had TV experience at a very young age.
In her free time Sophia loves reading the Bible and going to the beach.
