Sarasota County residents wait three hours in line for sandbags

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - It’s a race against time...Residents in Sarasota County filling up the Ed Smith Stadium parking lot on Monday ahead of what could be a catastrophic hurricane.
Starting at 7a.m, a line formed around the block and stretched over a mile long. Most residents told ABC7 they waited for three hours or more.
When met with county crew members, residents filled a maximum of 10 sandbags per car. Some arrived in multiple cars to stock up on extra bags for the storm.
During the long wait, some hopped out of the car and helped others fill their bags to get the line moving, others honked at each other, and even got into arguments with other drivers.
“I’m sitting here for two hours my back hurts already,” said Ligia Marcu, a resident of Sarasota County waiting in line. “There’s hundreds of people waiting, and this is just not right, I think we need more help,” said Marcu.
Residents can fill sandbags at three locations in the county until 7p.m tonight.
