Ultimate National Championships come to Lakewood Ranch

The 2017 USA Ultimate National Championships will be held at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch from October 19th through October 22nd. The USA Ultimate National Championships is one of the most prestigious events the sport has to offer. More than 1,200 athletes across 48 teams, 16 each in the men's, mixed and women's divisions, will take the field in pursuit of a national titles. The teams represent cities from across the country, and all three 2016 national champions are back to try to defend their titles in 2017.

A Suncoast rower is the best in the world. Pine View School's Clark Dean winning the junior men's single sculls at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Lithuania over the weekend.

Former SCF Baseball Coach elected to Hall of Fame

Tim Hill Sr., a former baseball coach at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, will be inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January. Hill, who led the SCF Manatees for 31 seasons, was one of the winningest junior college coaches of all time. For his career, he amassed a record of 1193-550-3 (.683) and ranked sixth all-time in wins among junior college coaches as of 2016.

Venice H.S. to start area's first boys volleyball team

Venice High School will become the first in the area to offer a boys volleyball team. Within two hours of posting a sign up sheet, more than 100 boys signed up to play. Next spring, Venice High will have varsity and junior varsity teams, with about 12 to 15 boys on each team.
