From the Suncoast to Nationals: local teen teaches us how to dance without limits
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Cameron is a 17-year-old competitive ballroom dancer with Down syndrome and apraxia, but his diagnosis does not define him. Known for his outgoing personality and absolute confidence, Cameron is currently preparing to compete at the Ballroom Dance National Championships this November.
Cameron trains through The Dynasty Stars, a local program designed to build self-confidence, movement, and peer connections for children, teens, and adults with special needs. To experience his talent firsthand, Suncoast View reporter joined Cameron to learn a few dance moves from the national competitor.
Beyond the dance floor, Cameron is an elite athlete who has completed two grueling 50K (31-mile) gravel bicycle races.
Cameron’s family hopes his accomplishments inspire others to keep expectations high and opportunities open for individuals with disabilities.
“Don’t let other people’s expectations determine what you are willing to attempt,” his family shared. “Have faith, love people, take chances, and enjoy the life you’ve been given.”
