IRS COVID-19 refund deadline falls Friday
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Friday is the deadline for millions of taxpayers to protect their chance at a potential COVID-19-related IRS refund.
The claims stem from a federal court ruling that found certain tax filing and payment deadlines may have been suspended during the COVID-19 emergency. The government is appealing that ruling.
Sarasota County voter registration deadline for August primary is July 20
Should the decision stand, some taxpayers who paid or were charged late penalties or interest between January 2020 and May 2023 could qualify for a refund.
The IRS has an online tool available for filing these claims.
Tax experts warn that anyone who misses Friday’s deadline could lose the opportunity permanently.
