PARRISH, Fla. (WWSB) - This week’s ABC7 Athlete of the Week is Parrish Community High School’s (PCHS) Avery Banfill.

She’s a rising senior at Parrish Community High School and a star player for the Lady Bulls golf program. She and her teammates are heading to Nationals at Pinehurst in North Carolina.

Of course the goal is to win and bring back another trophy, but Banfill says she’s also hopeful that this will be helpful for everyone for the upcoming season during the next school year.

The game has developed into a path that Banfill would like to pursue professionally, but it started out as a way for her to just bond with her father.

She’s taken full advantage of the opportunities to continue to improve her craft. Now, she’s a reigning state champion for the Lady Bulls, and has already made her collegiate commitment to the University of Memphis.

One of her coaches throughout her lifetime, Ryan Macey, who is also the Director of Golf operations at the River Strand Golf and Country Club in Bradenton. He tells ABC7 that he knows that more brighter things are ahead for Banfill in her future.

As she gears up for her senior year, Banfill has some personal goals that she would like to accomplish before she graduates from high school.

We would to mention that ABC7 anchor Erin Lisch is the head coach of the girls golf team at PCHS. We’ll keep you updated on how they perform this week in Pinehurst.
