SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Oppressive heat and humidity will grip the area through next the weekend, with highs in the low 90s and overnight lows around 80 degrees each day. The combination will create heat index values that could approach or exceed 105 degrees, making outdoor activities potentially dangerous during the heat of the day.

West winds will continue to push moisture inland, keeping humidity levels elevated throughout the forecast period. This pattern shows little sign of breaking, meaning residents should prepare for extended hot and humid conditions.

What to Expect

High temperatures will remain consistent in the low 90s from Saturday through Friday. Overnight lows will hover around 80 degrees, providing minimal relief from the heat. The lack of temperature drop overnight means heat will accumulate day after day.

Heat advisories are possible, particularly in the afternoon hours when heat index values peak. The National Weather Service may issue advisories when heat index projections reach 108 degrees or higher.

Rain Outlook

We are getting the short end of the stick across all of Florida as most of the heavy rain will miss us(WWSB)

The chance for rain remains minimal throughout the week, with less than 20% probability for most areas. Any rain that does develop will likely be scattered and sparse, with total accumulations expected to be a quarter inch or less over the entire five-day period.

East coast areas may see slightly better rain chances as sea breeze fronts develop along the east coast, but widespread rainfall is not expected here.

Safety Reminders

When temperatures and humidity combine to create dangerous heat index values, take precautions:

  • Limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours (afternoon and early evening)
  • Stay in the shade when possible
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day
  • Take frequent breaks if working outside
  • Use air conditioning when available
  • Watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including excessive sweating, weakness, and dizziness

Boating Conditions

Seas will be fairly light on Saturday running 2 feet or less. Boaters should monitor conditions and take appropriate precautions if they see an isolated storm that may pop up during the morning hours mainly.
