Jaylen Lindsey named ABC7 Athlete of the Month for May
BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - This week we present to you our ABC7 Athlete of the Month for May. The honor goes to Southeast High School’s (SEHS) Jaylen Lindsey.
We first told you about him a few weeks ago. He was just finishing up at States where he finished in sixth place for Class 3A. He was letting us know during his days of preparation that he was planning to end the season on a high note.
“I’m ready to compete,” Lindsey said. “I’m ready to do big things. I’m ready to shock the world one day. I’m on the way and I’m on the way quick.”
Now, it’s onto the summer and two other meets he will participate in to help get him ready for his upcoming senior year. Lindsey says he can’t wait to show everyone what he’s made of.
“I’m aiming to be top three over there,” Lindsey said. “I want to get my name out there and have colleges come over there and check me out. I want to have offers and just have people be able to notice me.”
Lindsey did all of this while continuing to excel in academics in the classroom. For all of those efforts, we have a surprise for him. ABC7 partnering with Carl Reynolds Law to gift Lindsey with check of $500 for his hard work on the track and in the classroom.
We had a chance to speak with Lindsey’s mother, Stephanie Brown, and what she’s the most proud of is the role model that she sees her son becoming for others.
“My son is very focused,” Brown said. “He’s humble and very resilient. As long as you position yourself to focus on what’s important and stay connected to the most high God, anything is possible.”
Lindsey knows this is just the beginning of his journey on the track and in life.
“Work hard and make sure you stay focused,” Lindsey said. “Always mentally be prepared. Just keep driving. Just be great, man.”
