Broc Dahlin named ABC7 Athlete of the Month for February
BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - This week we present to you our ABC7 Athlete of the Month for February. The honor goes to Bayshore High School’s (BHS) Broc Dahlin.
Dahlin has had an eventful season on the mat for the BHS Bruins. He became the school’s all time winningest wrestler. It’s something he expected to do when he first started on this journey, but he says he’s still proud of the accomplishment.
“I always knew about it,” Dahlin said. “I’ve always known about it since my freshman year. I knew I was going to break it around this time since freshman year. It’s obviously a great deal, but it always felt like an expectation to break it.”
He also just wrapped up his junior season on the mat for Bruins. Dahlin says this season has been more about helping the team’s performance as a whole and not just focusing on what he’s out there doing.
“Instead of look how good I am, look at what I’m doing to be good,” Dahlin said.
For accomplishing a historical feat and taking care of business in the classroom, there is a something special for Dahlin. ABC7 partnering with Carl Reynolds Law to present him with a check in the amount of $500 for his hard work on the mat and in academics.
Dahlin’s head coach and athletic director at BHS say they’re proud of him too. They believe he is providing a great example for all students at the school and in the community.
“He’s a fantastic kid,” Anthony Slack, the Bruins head wrestling coach, said. “If I had 100 of him, I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.”
“They see the promise,” Sean Mackey, the Bruins athletic director, said. “They see the dedication. They see the hard work.”
