BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - This week’s ABC7 Athlete of the Week is Bayshore High School’s (BHS) Broc Dahlin.

You may remember we first introduced you to him last school year when he was a sophomore. Well, this year he’s a junior and he taken big strides this season.

“The biggest thing is just taking care of my body,” Dahlin said. “Wrestling can have a big thing with injuries. If you don’t eat right and you don’t sleep right, your body doesn’t recover correctly. The biggest thing is just keeping your body healthy at a high level.”

He recently became BHS’s all-time winningest wrestler. He says he’s proud of this accomplishment, but has more that he wants to go after.

“I always knew about it,” Dahlin said. “I’ve always known about it since my freshman year. I knew I was going to break it around this time since freshman year. It’s obviously a great deal, but it always felt like an expectation to break it.”

Although he’s proud, these are all expectations that Dahlin says he’s always had for himself. Now, he’s challenging teammates to get those levels too.

“Instead of look how good I am, look at what I’m doing to be good,” Dahlin said.

Dahlin taking the next step as a leader makes his coach, Anthony Slack, proud too. This is not only of the wrestler, but the young man that Dahlin is becoming.

“It’s no secret that Broc’s the best on the team,” Slack said. “When you have a guy like Broc who can beat anybody at any given time, you’d be kind of foolish not to pick his brain and be around him.”

As for his own accomplishments, the state meet is approaching and Dahlin says he has unfinished business.

“I’ve had a whole lot of close matches,” Dahlin said. “I only have two losses, but they’re both to the same guy. He’s pretty good. I could be doing better.”
