SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - It’s introduction ends an 18-month project to replace their previous, dated mobile command center.

The new unit had a $925,000 price tag, with $800,000 of funding coming from the American Rescue Plan Act, approved by Sarasota City Commission in 2022.

On board the center, there is satellite technology; real-time radio and video streaming; drone operation capabilities; and more.

“The entire police department is excited to have the ability to bring us up to this century, this millennium, so we are able to protect this community,” Sarasota City Commissioner Jen Ahearn-Koch said.

Sarasota Police Chief Rex Troche says the unit will greatly improve the department’s emergency management, communication and response.
