TPA’s largest airside expansion in 2 decades breaks ground

TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) - On Wednesday, Tampa International Airport officials will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its newest expansion for domestic and international travelers.
Officials say Airside D will increase the airport’s capacity by 40%. According to TPA’s Master Plan market growth projections, the airport will help serve up to 35 million annual passengers by 2037.
The two-story, 600,000+ square foot facility will be the largest of TPA’s airsides and will accommodate both domestic and international flights.
According to TPA officials, Airside D will feature:
- 16 gates
- Two-level airside, plus a mezzanine
- Two airline lounges
- New Shuttle system and guideway
- International passenger arrival processing facility
- New shopping and dining locations
Airside D at Tampa International Airport is forecast to cost $1.5 billion and is scheduled to open to the public in 2028.
TPA plans to announce an airline that will be the Airside’s anchor tenant and operate one of the two lounge spaces on the mezzanine level soon.
