Election 2024: Here’s what amendments are at the polls
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - As we approach the 2024 General Election, there are multiple ballots up for consideration. Here’s what to know before you head to the polls.
Amendment 1 would allow school board candidates to list a political party, overturning a law passed over 20 years ago to make school board elections non partisan.
Amendment 2 would give Floridians a constitutional right to hunt and fish. A 60% vote of yes would allow “forever fishing and hunting, including by the use of traditional methods.”
Amendment 3 would allow adults who are 21 or older to possess, purchase and use marijuana for personal, nonmedical reasons. The amendment would also allow dispensaries to sell marijuana for recreational users.
Amendment 4 would eliminate Florida’s 6-week abortion ban on the grounds of limiting government interference in the issue. Voting yes would eliminate the ban while a vote of no would keep the ban as is.
Amendment 5 would tie part of your homestead exemption to a yearly inflation rise. If inflation goes up, so does the homeowner’s exemption.
Amendment 6 would remove a provision that uses public funds to candidates running for state office. There is currently a gift-matching program that allows politicians to use taxpayer dollars toward their campaign.
