Two dead in seven-car crash on US 301
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - UPDATE: Troopers responded Friday night at around 9:45 p.m. to the intersection of Tallevast Road and US 301 after a major crash between seven vehicles ended two lives.
All seven cars were traveling north at different lanes on US 301. A sedan collided with the rear end of another car, which caused the five other cars behind them to crash into each other, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The driver and passenger of the car that was initially crashed into were pronounced dead on the scene.
Most drivers and passengers of the other cars sustained no injuries, however some sustained serious and minor injuries, according to FHP.
Officers remained at the scene until at least 8 a.m., with the first tow truck arriving around 7:45 to haul away the wrecked cars.
The crash remains under investigation.
