Man killed in crash on Clark Rd. and Catamaran Dr.
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - An 81-year-old man has been pronounced dead in the crash on Clark Road and Catamaran Drive Thursday evening.
According to authorities, a sedan was traveling west on State Road 72, in the left turn lane, east of Catamaran Drive and a truck towing a trailer with heavy equipment was traveling east on State Road 72, in the left lane, west of Catamaran Drive.
The truck changed lanes to the center lane west of Catamaran Drive. The driver of the sedan failed to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left. The driver of the truck attempted to swerve to the right to avoid the collision, but the front of the sedan collided with the right side of the truck.
The sedan over-turned and both vehicles went off the southeast corner of the intersection.
The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead on-scene by Sarasota County EMS. The driver of the truck had minor injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate this traffic crash.
