TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Florida State defensive end Jermaine Johnson had a dream come true on Thursday evening during the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The former Seminole pass rusher hearing his name called 26th overall by the New York Jets.

Johnson played just one season in Garnet and Gold but managed to put together one of the most effective seasons off the edge in FSU’s illustrious football history. The Minnesota native registered 70 tackles (34 solo), 18 tackles for loss and 12 sacks in his single campaign in Tallahassee. The season along with a strong showing at the Senior Bowl and pre-draft workouts propelled Johnson from a relative unknown to a first round selection.

The 6′5″, 262 pound edge rusher joins a Jets squad that went 4-13 the prior season and will look to be a defensive compliment to QB Zack Wilson whom NYJ drafted in last year’s first round.
