VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) - Venice police are investigating what they believe is a double homicide and suicide in Venice.

Venice Police responded to a 911 call shortly before 7 p.m., Monday in the 900 block of Guadeloupe West Avenue. The caller said his friend at that address did not show up for a planned get-together earlier that day. After not getting an answer from a knock on the door, and seeing the family vehicles present, he asked for help.

While checking the exterior of the home, Venice Police Department officers could see through a side door window and saw an apparently dead male with a suspected gunshot wound.

After breaking into the house, the discovered the three residents of the home dead of gunshot wounds.

According to the police department, investigators say the evidence indicates that an 81-year-old man shot his 78-year-old wife and 50-year-old stepson, before killing himself.

The investigation is ongoing, the department said in a news release Tuesday morning. “Our sympathy goes out to the family and friends who are suffering during this loss,” the release concluded.
