VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) - Emergency crews were dispatched Thursday afternoon after a single-engine aircraft apparently belly landed at Venice Municipal Airport.
The Sarasota County 911 Dispatch call was made at about 1:15 p.m.
A Seawind 3000 experimental single-engine aircraft attempted to land at the airport when its landing gear did not fully engage, causing the wheels to collapse upon touching down. This caused the aircraft to skid approximately 620 feet on its belly before coming to a stop in the middle of the runway. The pilot was not injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been contacted to investigate the incident. Venice Police, Venice Fire Rescue and Sarasota County Sheriff’s personnel responded.
