LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (WWSB) - Florida Highway Patrol responded to a Thursday morning crash, that involved a car and a person riding a bicycle, sending them to the hospital.

FHP says the crash happened at the intersection of Lakewood National Parkway and Arnie Loop, at 9:00 a.m.

According to troopers, an 18-year-old Bradenton man was driving south on Arnie loop, approaching the stop sign at Lakewood National Parkway. The 18 year old driver stopped at the stop sign, according to troopers, but when he proceeded to make a right turn on Lakewood National Parkway, a 73-year-old Bradenton woman rode her bike into the car’s path. That’s when the car collided with the cyclist. FHP says the cyclist had to be airlifted to a local area hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

FHP says the woman was not wearing a helmet. The driver of vehicle did not sustain any injuries, per FHP.
