SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida took to social media to ask the president to make a stand against protests that have locked the Capitol down.

Rubio tweeted at President Trump with a plea, “Mr. President @realDonaldTrump the men & women of law enforcement are under assault. It is crucial you help restore order by sending resources to assist the police and ask those doing this to stand down.”

Dozens of people breached security perimeters at the Capitol and lawmakers inside the House chamber were told to put on gas masks as tear gas was fired in the Rotunda.
