LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (WWSB) - The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who was caught on surveillance video breaking into a home and walking around the pool with a rifle.

The incident in question occurred in the Summerfield development on Dec. 1 around 3:30 a.m. The bizarre scene was captured on the home’s surveillance system.

“We don’t know what the intent would’ve been, it doesn’t appear that anything was taken,” said Randy Warren, spokesperson for the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. “This person did not make entry into the actual house it was just inside the screened lanai, cut the lanai in order to make entry, so it’s a burglary to an occupied dwelling.”

The man was wearing beanie-style hat, ear protection headphones, face covering, sweatpants, gloves and crocs.

Deputies were able to determine that the man in the video was Mark Kramer, who was already in jail in Manatee County on an unrelated but similar charge.

Kramer admitted to the bizarre crime and told detectives that he has always fantasized about being a police officer or being in the military, and says that he ingested narcotics that night giving him the courage to act out on his fantasy.

Kramer says he drove through a Lakewood Ranch neighborhood and decided to sneak around as if he was on a mission. He also told detectives he had no intentions of stealing anything or committing further crimes. He also apologized for “scaring the community.”
