City of Sarasota will move the Unconditional Surrender statue to a different location on the Bayfront

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) -Sarasota City Commissioners voting 4 to 1 to keep the Unconditional Surrender statue on the Bayfront and relocate it a short distance from its current site. It will now be located between O’Leary’s Tiki Bar and Grill and Marina Jack.

The relocation will occur by Jan. 15, 2021 to make way for construction of the US 41-Gulfstream Ave. roundabout.

Construction on the roundabout at Gulfstream Avenue and U.S. 41 will start in February. The Florida Department of Transportation has requested the City of Sarasota move the statue for the duration of the project.
