MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) - Florida Highway Patrol of Southwest Florida reports that a FHP Trooper car was struck on I-75 in Manatee County.

Vehicle 1 was southbound on Interstate 75 in the left lane in a construction zone, The marked FHP Dodge Charger and a construction pickup truck were stopped side by side on the left paved shoulder of Interstate 75, at mile marker 216, facing south.

The driver of vehicle 1 lost control of the vehicle as the vehicle hydroplaned and rotated on the wet roadway. The right side of the vehicle collided with the rear of the FHP Dodge Charger. The left side of the Trooper vehicle was forced into the right side of the construction pickup truck.

Vehicle 1 came to rest in a diagonal position across the southbound I-75 lanes. The FHP vehicle was pushed forward 50 feet before coming to final rest on the southbound paved shoulder. The construction vehicle remained facing south on the left paved shoulder.

The FHP Trooper was initially outside of the vehicle, but reentered the vehicle just as the crash occurred.

The trooper sustained minor injuries. FHP asks that drivers drive responsibly and remain aware of weather & traffic conditions.
