SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The City of Sarasota voted to reopen Lido Key Beach and the Lido Beach Pavilion.

The votes came in 4-1 in favor of the decision to reopen the beach.

During the time Lido Key Beach remained closed, nearby restaurants and shops in St Armands Circle really felt the difference.

“Unfortunately we had some businesses closed permanently and they’re just not coming back. Including one of the big Restaurants out here. And that’s the main reason why people are going north and south of the beaches that are open and just weren’t coming here”. says Jason Burns.

Burns is the owner of Lynches Pub and Grub Owner in St Armands Circle, he says now that beaches are open they will get more foot traffic for their businesses.

"Hopefully, some people from Central Florida who want to come to the beaches, so hopefully will get some of that traffic". says Burns

The city will remove the barricades that were being used to keep the beach closed on Tuesday morning.

Citizens are being asked to continue to follow CDC guidelines for safe social distancing while in the public to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
