BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - Detectives in Bradenton have arrested two men following a fatal shooting early Monday morning.
Police say they were called shortly before 6am to a home on the 2800 block of Southern Parkway West after a report of a shooting. There, they found 21-year-old Ryan Booth of Bradenton dead in the front yard from what looked like gunshot wounds.
Kaleb Sutherland, 18, of Bradenton was found nearby and held while detectives spoke with the resident of the home, 21-year-old Ande Ebalan.
Police say Ebalan told them that Booth and Sutherland came to his home to buy drugs. Ebalan told detectives that at one point, Booth attacked him and he shot Booth in self-defense.
Detectives spoke to Sutherland who they say made statements that corroborated Ebalan’s account of what happened.
After obtaining a search warrant, police say they found a large quantity of illegal and prescription narcotics in Ebalan’s home.
Ebalan was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell narcotics.
But Sutherland was arrested and charged with second degree murder.
In Florida, a person can be charged with second degree murder if the victim was killed during the course of a felony, even if that person was not directly involved in the homicide itself.
Detectives say their investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 941-932-9322.
