NORTH PORT, Fla. (WWSB) - Thanksgiving only a week and half away and to get into the spirit of the holidays, North Port is hosting three programs that remind the community this is the season of giving.

One of the efforts held by the City of North Port is “Adopt and Shop.”

This program currently has 250 families who are asking for assistance during this time of year.

Businesses and organizations can adopt these families for the holidays.

Another effort is the “12 Days of Giving” where you can drop off toys, clothing and school items.

You can also drop off donations for the Senior Giving Tree.

This allows the city to provide a holiday lunch for seniors.

“What’s great about North Port is that everybody does come together and supports one another,” Coco Hibbitts, the Community Outreach Coordinator said. “There is a great sense of community in our area, and I think these programs really highlight that where you see people that have are so willing to help people who are a little less fortunate in our area.”

You can drop donation items or sign up to adopt a family or senior at North Port City Hall or the Social Services Building.
