SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The State Attorney’s Office announced on Friday that a 29-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison and designated as a sexual predator for sexually assaulting a pre-teen girl.
A jury convicted Wilfredo Erazo-Turcios on two counts sexual assault upon a child between 12 and 18 years old years of age by a person in familial or custodial authority.
Prosecutors say Erazo-Turcios had lived with the victim and her family since the victim was 10-years-old. In December 2015, Erazo-Turcios confessed to his wife that he had been having sex with the girl.
The following day, the victim’s mother spoke to the girl who told her mother what had happened. The abuse took place between August and December 2015.
When Erazo-Turcios learned police had been told about the abuse, he fled. His vehicle was found abandoned in Laredo, TX in January 2016.
Though Bradenton Police tried to locate Erazo-Turcios, they learned he fled the country. However, in September 2017, they learned Erazo-Turcios had returned and was working in Sarasota County.
Erazo-Turcios was taken into custody and admitted abusing the girl. He told police that he warned the victim that if she told anyone, her mother would die.
