PALM RIVER, Fla. (AP) — Sheriff’s officials in Florida have seized 60 roosters and arrested four people following a raid on a cockfighting ring.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies executed the search warrant at 3727 70th Street South on Tuesday and found evidence of the operation, including cages and what appeared to be an indoor arena.
Four people were arrested, including Irma Arcaya, Rogel Martinez Perez, Pedro Rodriguez and Lazo Fernandez. All are facing felony charges of possession of an animal for fighting and owning equipment for animal fighting.
Investigators are searching for a fifth person, Raul Gonzalez Torres, for similar charges including owning equipment for animal fighting, possession of animal for fighting, owning property for animal fighting, facilitating animal fighting, and aggravated cruelty to animals.
The Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is caring for the roosters and four dogs.
