Charges dropped for man in traffic stop arrest in Venice

Charges dropped for traffic stop arrest

VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) - For the second time in recent weeks, charges have been dropped against a person arrested by Venice Police.

This time, a man arrested after a traffic stop has had his name cleared. This comes just weeks after charges were dropped against a man thought to be burglarizing a hotel room where he was actually a guest.

Both of these arrests were caught on dash cam video.

Ladarius Smith was pulled over back in December after the officer said he did not come to a complete stop. The police report says officers found rock cocaine in his car.

All of this was caught on dash cam footage, which a defense attorney says show Smith actually did come to a legal stop.

Smith’s attorney, Andrew Hibbert, challenged the arrest and state attorneys agreed and dropped the charges against him.

The Venice Police Department would not comment but we are hearing an internal affairs investigation will take place. We are also awaiting to hear back from the State Attorney’s office.
