SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The state attorney’s office announced on Thursday that a Manatee County man has been convicted of trying to kill deputies in February 2017.
A jury convicted Mark Davis on two counts of Attempted Manslaughter by Act with a Firearm and Shooting a Missile Within or In a Building.
Davis called 911 stating “shots fired” and ended the phone call before giving any further information. When deputies arrived on the scene to assist him, Davis fired approximately 25 shots at the deputies through his bedroom window and almost struck four of them.
Davis said that he believed he was shooting at burglars during his testimony. However, there was no evidence at the scene or through his surveillance video to support his belief.
“We are pleased with the jury’s verdict,” Assistant State Attorneys Charlie Lawrence and Garrett Franzen said. “These deputies were protecting the community with their lives, and they do every day, and we are proud that justice was served.”
Sentencing for Davis is to be set and the crimes carry a maximum possible sentence of 45 years.
