BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - Dozens of law enforcement chiefs and officers from several different agencies gathered Thursday at the First Baptist Church in downtown Bradenton for the annual law enforcement memorial service. It was part of the annual National Police Week.
Keynote speaker and Manatee County Commissioner Reggie Bellamy said there have been nine members of law enforcement killed in Manatee County since 1897. Bellamy says it’s important never to forget them.
“It’s clear that when a law enforcement officer wakes up, the intent is for them to make it back home (that night)...We have to continue to remember the individuals who have laid down their lives for us," Bellamy said.
