SARASOTA (WWSB) -Red tide is back, but in very low concentrations off the coast of Longboat Key.

That’s according to a report released by the state. Florida Fish and Wildlife report that a sample taken Monday at the Longboat Pass boat ramp in Sarasota Bay returned a very low level of red tide.

No fish kills or respiratory irritation has been reported. Now, red tide does come and go. So, don’t go changing your plans to hit the beach!

According to Mote Marine Laboratory, red tide can last as little as a few weeks or longer than a year. The speed and direction of wind and water currents plays a big part in that.

The next complete status report will be issued on Friday.
