SARASOTA (WWSB) - The 14th annual Dick Vitale Gala was held Friday at the Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota.
Dozens of stars from the sports world gathered for the event to help raise money for cancer research and a night benefiting the V Foundation victory over Cancer.
The honorees included ESPN broadcaster Chris Fowler, Clemson University head football coach Dabo Swinney and former college and NBA head basketball coach Avery Johnson.
There were also many cancer survivors and their families in attendance for the event.
Vitale, the Lakewood Ranch famed sports broadcaster was the host and ESPN anchor and former ABC7 sports anchor Kevin Negandy was the emcee for the evening.
This gala has raised over 25 million dollars for cancer research since the event’s existence. Their goal from this year’s event was to raise at least four million dollars.
