SARASOTA (WWSB) - President Trump is pressuring Congress to approve hurricane relief funding for the Florida Panhandle.
More than six months after Hurricane Michael made landfall, Congress still has not agreed to federal aid for the Panhandle and other communities devastated by the Category 5 storm.
This week President Trump promised nearly 500 million dollars of relief funds from the housing budget.
“So in 2017, HUD allocated 1.5 million dollars and its used for housing and mitigation programs so the way one worked is we had to make a proposal to HUD about how we would spend that money and then it’s allocated to the counties," Florida Senator Rick Scott said.
HUD funds will not cover the several million dollars worth of damages to Tyndall Air Force Base.
