Chemical spills sends more than 40 kids to hospital in Charlotte County

More than 40 students taken to hospital

SARASOTA (WWSB) - Charlotte County Fire rescue responded to Port Charlotte Adventist School for a HAZ-MAT situation Wednesday involving a chemical spill

Officials say hydrochloric acid was spilled in a janitor’s closet. The school had to be evacuated and more than 40 students were taken to the hospital complaining of difficulty breathing.

The school has been tested multiple times and is now cleared to let students and staff back into the building.
