Station failure causes 5,500 gallon spill in Sarasota

5 thousand gallons of sewage spilled

SARASOTA (WWSB) - A lift station failure Sunday in Sarasota spilled 5,500 gallons of raw sewage.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection issued a notice about the spill that happened at around noon in the 7200 block of Bounty Drive in the Gulf Gate neighborhood in Sarasota.

According to the report, that station was found in high water and none of the the three pumps were operational. This caused the release of approximately 5,500 gallons that could not be recovered.

A by-pass pump was turned on and the station pumps were reset. The cause of the failure is unknown according to the report. Samples were taken, but the area could not be limited because of rainfall.
