SARASOTA (WWSB) - School safety is a top priority and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office wants everyone to get on board.
SCSO and the Florida Sheriff’s Association are partnering up from April 22 to April 26 to monitor school zones and increase public awareness about the safety of students traveling to and from school.
“Drivers should always be vigilant and never allow distractions to take their eyes off the road,” said Sheriff Tom Knight. “The greater risk is not to your wallet but to the life and safety of a child, so slow down and pay even closer attention when driving before and after school.”
The main concern is safety as children are walking, riding bikes, using cross walks and getting on and off buses, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
This week is called Task Force Operation School Zone Safety Week.
