SARASOTA (WWSB) - Police in Sarasota are investigating a shooting involving juveniles that happened Monday night on the 1900 block of 32nd Street.

Officers were patrolling the area around 8pm when they heard between 8-10 gunshots ring out. Immediately afterward, officers say they saw a vehicle speeding southbound on Gillespie Avenue.

When they stopped the vehicle, police say three male juveniles exited and fled, though one was caught and detained for questioning. Officers say inside the vehicle, they were able to spot two possible handguns and one possible long gun. The vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant.

“Last week we shared with our community that we would be increasing patrols in our north district after a spike in related gun incidents,” said Patrol Captain Demetri Konstantopoulos. “Because of proactive patrols in the area, our Officers were nearby when this shooting happened, and they were able to take immediate action when they heard gunshots.”

Police say their preliminary investigation shows the three juveniles may have been shooting at another vehicle.

No injuries were reported and the shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 941-954-7062.
