(WWSB) - A father of three from North Port died in a fatal accident over the weekend in Lee County.
On Saturday April 20, 2019 around 10:19 p.m., troopers say the Machado family was riding in a 2000 Jeep Wrangler on US 41 being driven by 36-year-old Jesus Machado. His wife 30-year-old Keli Machado, was in the passenger seat and their three children, ages 11, 8 and 5, were also in the vehicle.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Machado was driving south inside the left turning lane on Tamiami Trail headed towards Avenue A. FHP says he crashed into the median curb and drove off the roadway, spinning around.
FHP says the Jeep flipped over multiple times and it finally stopped in a ditch. Machado was ejected out of the car and fell about 30 feet away from the Jeep. He was declared dead the scene.
A GoFundMe account has been started by Machado’s sister. She writes that Keli “has a severed spine and broken arms and legs. We don’t know if she will make it. Our family is destroyed. My brother was an extremely dedicated father and husband. He was hard-working, he was loving, and lived for his family.”
The GoFundMe page says the injuries to the children are non-critical.
The crash remains under investigation.
