FORT MYERS (WWSB) - FWC raced into action Monday when an 8-foot long manatee was trapped in the shallow waters of a Fort Myers canal.
Biologists say the adult male manatee showed signs of exhaustion in canal and then stress after it was removed from the shallow waters.
At first, biologists thought the manatee should be taken to a rehabilitation center. But once it was loaded onto a transport truck, the manatee perked up and showed signs of recovery.
After a veterinary evaluation, the manatee was released at a local boat ramp.
