BRADENTON (WWSB) - The sheriff’s office says a man who robbed the Wells Fargo bank in Bradenton led deputies on a chase on I-75 before causing an accident and being taken into custody.
The Wells Fargo Bank on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard was robbed around 2:30pm on Tuesday. Employee described a man who came in, demanded cash, then fled in a waiting vehicle.
Deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description given by employees heading west on SR 64 E, just east of Heritage Green Way, and attempted to pull the driver over. Deputies say the vehicle didn’t stop and instead went onto I-75 North.
Deputies gave chase and say the driver fled, eventually crossing the median and crashing into the driver’s side of a vehicle traveling on I-75 South. The chase ended there, but deputies say the driver refused to get out of his vehicle. A K9 officer was used to engage the suspect, who was then taken into custody.
Randy Parent, 57, is charged with bank robbery, pursuit, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. He was initially taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries, but has since been transferred to the Manatee County Jail.
The driver of the vehicle he struck had minor cuts and bruises that did not require medical treatment.
After being booked in the county jail, deputies charged Parent with a second bank robbery. The sheriff’s office says Parent robbed the Bank OZK on SR 70 E on March 27.
