BRADENTON (WWSB) - Year in year out it’s always a great event on the Suncoast and it certainly is family fun for everyone.
Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to flock to the Manatee River in Bradenton and Palmetto tomorrow for the annual Bradenton Area River Regatta. In addition to the powerboat racing, there’s great music, lots of food and many shows including a dog show.
“What’s exciting about this market, this city of Palmetto, Bradenton and Manatee County is they get it," said Mike Fetchko, Organizer of the Bradenton Area River Regatta. "They love it, their cities get behind it, the county gets behind it and we love to see all the spectators smile.”
The speed and high energy of the powerboats are sure to excite people. Formula 2 powerboat racer Jeff Reno is always happy to return to this event in a place he once called home.
“Any kind of competition is exciting, but running a hundred miles an hour next to somebody and going into the turns, pulling 3 to 5 g’s, it’s something that’s really exhilarating,” said Reno.
Palmetto Mayor Shirley Groover Bryant tells us this event is a really big boost to the local economy.
“It’s very exciting for Palmetto, because it’s one more opportunity to showcase our city and our businesses,” said Groover Bryant.
All the festivities get underway tomorrow morning at 10am and goes all day ending with the fireworks at around 7pm. For more information you can log onto bradentonarearegatta.com.
