SARASOTA (WWSB) - A Venice man faces at least 25 years behind bars for molesting a girl who had been invited to his home for his daughter’s birthday party.
After a five-day trial, Nicky Pasquale was convicted by a jury on Friday of lewd or lascivious molestation of a child less than 12-years-old and battery. He will be sentenced in March and faces a minimum sentence of 25 years in prison and could face a life sentence.
Prosecutors say last year, Pasquale held a birthday party for his child at his home. When the party ended, he volunteered to take a girl who attended the party back to her grandmother’s house. That’s when prosecutors say he molested the girl.
"Because the victim came forward immediately to report the abuse and bravely faced her abuser by testifying at trial, she has helped bring justice not only to herself, but also to every woman and child he has abused in the past," said Assistant State Attorney Ryan Felix, who prosecuted this case.
During the trial, the jury also heard from the victim's 14-year-old cousin, who said Pasquale touched her inappropriately a year earlier.
Prosecutors say Pasquale has a long history of violence against women and was on probation at the time of this crime for battering his girlfriend. He was also accused of sexually battering a 7-year-old girl in Germany in 2010.
He will be sentenced in March.
