SARASOTA (WWSB) - The Sarasota County School District is taking the next steps in implementing a cell phone ban.

At a workshop on Tuesday, a majority of school board members expressed support for some type of cell phone restriction.

They're just unclear about how far to take a possible ban.

As the rules stand now, students are allowed to bring devices to school, but they must turn them off and keep them out of sight.

There are no specific restrictions for different grade levels.

Teachers have reportedly expressed concerns that the current policy is not being enforced and many feel there is a need for an updated policy.

School board members decided on Tuesday that during their next workshop, which is scheduled for February 5th, they’ll bring specific proposals to the table.
