Sarasota woman allegedly steals over $100,000 from her 96-year-old client

SARASOTA, Fl (WWSB) - A Sarasota woman was arrested for allegedly stealing more then $100,000 from her 96-year-old client.

Krystle McLeod, 38, was the caregiver and housekeeper of the elderly Sarasota man.

The Power of Attorney for the victim noticed suspicious credit card transactions allegedly made by McLeod. He notified police and detectives began an investigation in August of 2018.

Deputies say the investigation revealed McLeod not only used the victim’s credit cards, but allegedly wrote and cashed 180 checks between March 2017 and August 2018.

Deputies say McLeod accepted payment for her services, but allegedly wrote and cashed more than one check a day and used the money for personal purchases. Collectively, the checks totaled $109,727.

McLeod is charged with one felony count of Grand Theft from a Person 65 or Older.

She remains in custody today at the Sarasota County Jail. McLeod has prior arrests for Child Neglect, Drug Possession, Resisting an Officer, and more.
