SARASOTA (WWSB) - It took five years of failing to push greyhound racing reform though the Florida legislature, but it’s official: Greyhound racing in Florida will be over by the end of 2020. With 68% of people who voted on Amendment 13 wanting the end of dog racing, the amendment passed last month. Florida is home to 11 of the nation’s 17 active dog tracks, so what’s going to happen to the 5,000-8,000 dogs that raced and now need homes?
Marsha Panuce of Dante’s Den, Cyndi Toale of the Racing Dog Rescue Project and Kelly Driscoll of Grey2k join Jacqueline Matter at the trapezoid to discuss.
