Well it's happened lake Superior has frozen over along with lake Huron and Erie. With the brutal cold winter, the Great Lakes are now mostly the Frozen Lakes. I checked the wave heights of Erie, Superior and Huron and they read 0. That's because there are no waves on the ice. The widespread extent of this freeze to the Great Lakes, hasn't happened since the winter of 1978-1979 deep freeze.
Some people are enjoying this freeze as they can now walk to the amazing ice caves on lake Superior. In fact thousands have made the journey across the ice, which is usually accessible by boat during the winter.
This big freeze will also mean a delay to the spring thaw in this area. Summer may actually be cooler as a result of this tremendous cold winter of 2013 and 2014.
And it's not over yet with still over 5 weeks of winter remaining.
It's no wonder there are so many people visiting the Suncoast this season, and more are on the way.
