If you have not updated your first aid kit in a year, then take time to do it while you have some.

Don't wait until it's too late to customize and update the tools that you may need in an emergency.

Chris Purnell of the Southwest chapter of the American Red Cross in Sarasota says, "There are first aid kits to accommodate everyone, and products are constantly being updated, so, make sure that your ointments and salves haven't expired."

She also cautions to get rid of old gloves because they can disintegrate over time.

First-aid kits range from small enough to fit on your belt to large family sized ones. All should contain the basics including, Band-aids, gauze, surgical tape, gloves etc... for more information go to http://www.redcross.org/prepare/location/home-family/get-kit/anatomy.
