FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Flood advisory for S. Sarasota and W. Charlotte Counties

Sarasota, FL (WWSB) - Heavy rain has been moving through S. Sarasota County over the past hours.  Rainfall rates of 2 inches an hour is occurring with these storms.  Here is the advisory from the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service in Ruskin has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...

Northwestern Charlotte County in southwestern Florida...

Southeastern Sarasota County in west central Florida...

* Until 930 PM EDT

* At 735 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to

thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in

the advisory area.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...

North Port, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, Charlotte County Airport,

Murdock, Solana, Harbour Heights, Charlotte Park, Cleveland and

Charlotte Harbor.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood

deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the

dangers of flooding.
