TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - On Thursday, February 27, 2014, the Florida Veterans Foundation, Inc. will host a free cookout for homeless veterans. It will take place along the North end of Lake Ella (behind the American Legion Post #13 at The Hootch next to the helicopter) in Tallahassee from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Florida Veterans Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit in direct support to the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs helping Veterans throughout the state of Florida.
In addition to getting a hot meal at the free cookout, homeless veterans will also have a chance to pre-register for the 2nd annual North Florida Homeless Veterans Stand Down scheduled for April 4-6, 2014 at the North Florida Fairgrounds. Pre-registering will help ensure access to legal services or the Court and help homeless veterans pre-qualify for permanent housing.
During the three-day Stand Down event, veterans will be offered a range of services designed to help them escape the difficult challenges of being homeless, including free access to food, shelter, showers, hair styling, clothing, personal care items, medical services, job counseling and more.
